Web-based and Interactive (WBI) Noise Map: Raising Awareness of the Public

Interactive web presentations of Al-Khobar city noise maps are generated for Al-Khobar city using CadnaA*. The web-based and interactive noise maps are presented in a way, which allows the user to zoom a chosen part of the city to view the map detail. The user with a single mouse click can examine the noise level at any position of the zoomed noise map. Different noise levels as a result of major road traffic can be viewed at different day periods (e.g. day, evening and night). The user can switch between any of the predicted noise indicators i.e. (Lden, Ld, Le, and Ln ). In order to raise the awareness of the public such interactive noise maps are made available and accessible to the public. The user can chose and zoom a location on Al-Khobar city map under a selected noise scenario and switch between different noise types during the day time periods for the displayed part. By clicking on a receiver point the predicted noise level can be viewed.
Future Work: Dynamic Noise Maps
The noise map of Al-Khobar city generated with CadnaA can be updated in pre-specified time periods using recent measured traffic count data (Traffic Flow Profiles) or automatically based on measured data of noise levels. In future development, it planned to perform direct update to the automatic monitoring systems installed at the relevant receiver locations along chosen main roads. Utilizing the measured data with hourly sound level data provided by the noise monitoring system, it possible to display up-to-date information by means of a noise map referenced to a specific time/hour of the day.
